Kelly’s Flock: My journey to becoming a “Crazy Chicken Lady” started when my spouse suggested we get chickens so our vegetable garden could benefit from their soil-enhancing excrements. I thought he was joking; he wasn’t. Fast-forward three years, and I couldn’t be more enamored with our feathery backyard neighbors. Our flock consists of several adult hens, which we raised from day-old chicks in 2024: a Buff Orpington (Karma), Chocolate Orpington (Donut), Speckled Sussex (Scarlett), and an Americana Easter Egger (Ms. Americana/Missy). We added new chicks (the littles) this spring: a Saphire Oliver Egger (Elizabeth Taylor/Lizzy), Lavender Orpington (Juniper/Juney), and a Black Austrolorp (Petunia/Tuney). Flock integration has been a fun new challenge for us!
More About Kelly: In addition to leading a flock of chickens, I enjoy growing veggies, berries, and herbs, and coming up with new ways to incorporate our harvest into baked goods with the help of my trusty sourdough starter (Samantha). I also enjoy hiking, traveling, knitting, and raising two daughters with my spouse, Max.
