Not only is it an educational experience for enthusiasts eager to learn more about ducks, but it also presents an ideal occasion for both children and adults to engage in up-close interactions through feeding, petting, and observing the playful nature of these fun-loving animals. Whether seeking to expand your knowledge or simply connecting with nature in a new way, duck encounters offer a delightful and enriching experience for everyone!

  • You’ll get to meet each member of our flock and learn about their habits and routines. You can learn more about who you will be meeting ahead of time by visiting the ‘Our Flock’ page of this site.

  • Duck feathers are quite soft. Their coat will also change throughout the year. They also have webbed feet to help them swim. Lefse is one of our friendliest ducks and will trade being pet for treats!

  • Ducks tend to like a wide variety of bugs, worms, and garden vegetables. Our entire flock enjoys meal worms and lettuce. Lefse’s favorite treats are garden-grown cherry tomatoes.

  • You will learn all about what makes a domestic duck different than a wild duck like a Mallard or Wood Duck. Unlike wild ducks, domestic ones don’t migrate south for winter.

  • Another area that you will get to see first hand is the difference between boy ducks and girl ducks. There are many ways beyond just egg production and feather color to tell the gender of a duck.

  • You’ll be able to tour the ducks’ coop and see their favorite spots to hang out in the yard. Unlike chickens, ducks will build their nests anywhere they feel like, and it can differ from day to day, so this will be like a mini Easter egg hunt.

  • Get your picture with one of our ducks. We are sensitive to the ducks’ safety and personal space, and the ducks’ moods may change from day to day (just like humans). Letting the ducks lead the interaction is the best way to gain trust. We can’t guarantee you will be able to hold them, but they will still come pose with you for a few pics!

  • Depending upon the time of year and the current flock dynamic, you may have the option to do one of the following: dig for worms with the ducks, watch them play on their splash pad, hold a duck, or take a duck egg home. Activities can’t be guaranteed depending on the season and other factors.
